Importance of fertility control Fertility control allows women to: Control their care-giving burden Enhance their ability to develop an independent source of income Enable them to dissolve their marriage if they want Urban women want 1.5 children, bear 2.1 children Rural women want 2.6 children, bear 2.7 children Non-marital fertility remains a sensitive topic. Household Composition 4.5 persons 6.9 persons 1.6 persons Simple households constitute the vast majority. Complex households only 1 in 5. Complex households are not very “complex.” Usually nuclear family plus 1-2 persons. It is not very usual for single persons to live alone. 1 in 20 households is a single person household. This is probably due to the economics of single living.
