Saint John The Baptist ..... An Evangelist

1. The Hermit St. John the Baptist .... And John himself was clothed in camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey (Mat 3 : 4) His Food His Clothes For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live (Rom 8 : 13)

1. The Hermit St. John the Baptist .... Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, (Luk 4 : 1) But I discipline my body and bring [it] into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified (1Co 9 : 27)

1. The Hermit St. John the Baptist .... As they departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? "But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed, those who wear soft [clothing] are in kings' houses. "But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet. (Mat 11: 7- 9)

2. The Proclaimer St. John the Baptist .... "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the LORD; Make His paths straight' “(Mar 1: 3) As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the LORD; Make His paths straight. Every valley shall be filled And every mountain and hill brought low; The crooked places shall be made straight And the rough ways smooth; And all flesh shall see the salvation of God' (Luk 3 : 4 - 6)

St. John the Baptist .... 2. 3. The Forerunner St. John the Baptist .... "For this is [he] of whom it is written: 'Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, Who will prepare Your way before You' (Mat 11 : 10) "I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water" (Joh 1 : 31)

4. The Priest, The Son of The Priest St. John the Baptist .... And John [tried to] prevent Him, saying, "I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?" But Jesus answered and said to him, "Permit [it to be so] now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness" Then he allowed Him. (Mat 3 : 14 - 15) The Value of The Priest "He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light. (Joh 5 : 35)

5. The Preacher St. John the Baptist .... In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!"(Mat 3 : 1 - 2) "And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire (Mat 3 : 10)

5. The Preacher St. John the Baptist .... "Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as [our] father' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones (Luk 3 : 8) He answered and said to them, "He who has two tunics, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise" (Luk 3 : 11)

"He must increase, but I [must] decrease 6. The Friend of The Groom St. John the Baptist .... "He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled (Joh 3 : 29) "You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, 'I am not the Christ,' but, 'I have been sent before Him' (Joh 3 : 28) "He must increase, but I [must] decrease (Joh 3 : 30)

7. The Teacher St. John the Baptist .... Then they said to Him, "Why do the disciples of John fast often and make prayers, and likewise those of the Pharisees, but Yours eat and drink?" (Luk 5 : 33) "They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another, saying: 'We played the flute for you, And you did not dance; We mourned to you, And you did not weep'."For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, 'He has a demon'(Luk 7:32 - 33)

7. The Teacher St. John the Baptist .... for Herod feared John, knowing that he [was] a just and holy man, and he protected him. And when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly (Mar 6 : 20) For John had said to Herod, "It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife" (Mar 6 : 18)

8. The Witness & Martyr St. John the Baptist .... The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! (Joh 1 : 29) "And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God" (Joh 1 : 34) He was not that Light, but [was sent] to bear witness of that Light (Joh 1 : 8)
