Open Charm Measurements with a Small Acceptance Vertex Detector @ NA61 Project duration: 2015 - 2018 M. Deveaux, Goethe University Frankfurt

Why this geometry? SAVD covers 35% of NA61 acceptance for D0+D0bar. M. Deveaux

Expected results (GEANT4 Simulation) A. Andronic, Workshop on discovery at the LHC, Kruger 2012 SAVD + NA61 Ideal PID Always preliminary Always preliminary SAVD + NA61 No PID Expected performance (preliminary): ~ 1000 D0 + D0-bar /week (Pb+Pb, 156 A GeV, HSD multiplicity) S/B = 0.5 (No PiD), 13 (ideal PiD) SNR = 22-30 M. Deveaux

Status of the proposal Status: Proposal filed early 2015 Decision 15. July 2015 => No funding Expect report ~15. August Potential reasons: Too expensive for this term Scientifically to weak No NA61 funding possible via DFG Rework and refile for early 2016 Show stopper for german funding. In any case: No funding available in 2015 (also not from my regular budget) M. Deveaux

Status of the project Accordance of NA61: OK, M. Gazdzicki Sensors: Established in CBM and EU-Det Purchase: Already done by NA61 Support: Granted by M. Winter et al. (IPHC) Payment of 2 sensors open (?) Sensors QA: Demonstrated in CBM Responsible: Deveaux / M. Koziel, IKF - Frankfurt Support/Infrastructure: Prof. J. Stroth (IKF) All ressources available, no spares Mechanical support (ladders): ALICE - ITS Purchase: Agreement NA61 – ALICE (L. Musa) Responsible: G. Feofilov (St. Petersburg) Funding: Russian funding (available) M. Deveaux

Status of the project Sensor integration: Established in CBM Responsible: Deveaux / M. Koziel, IKF - Frankfurt Support/Infrastructure: Prof. J. Stroth (IKF) Missing resources for flex cable. Mechanical support (Detector, cooling): Responsible: P. Stazel (Krakow) + Engineer. Funding: Polish funding, granted. FEE: Available, CBM Responsible: Deveaux / J. Michel. Funding: Polish funding (available). Missing resources for hardware. Missing resources for manpower. M. Deveaux

Status of the project DAQ (Hardware/Software): Established (CBM), needs adapting to NA61 Responsible: Deveaux, J.Michel (TRB-collab.) => Technology transfer to W. Kucewicz, Krakow Missing hardware in Krakow. Missing ressources for manpower. Data analysis / simulation: Codes: CBM (Deveaux, et al.), need to be adapted. Simulation: P. Staszel Analysis: P. Staszel, M. Deveaux Missing ressources for manpower. Dag took over to some extend. Beam time: Test run end of 2015, early 2016 (already requested). Production beam time to be requested by NA61 for 2016 and 2017. M. Deveaux

M. Deveaux

How to do? Idea of Marek: Money for sensors still to be paid back to common fund. Reduce repayment by ~10kEUR. Use money for purchasing electronics via Krakow. Wait for referee reports and plan next steps. Needs to be defended in front of the NA61 collaboration board => Marek‘s job M. Deveaux
