The Negative Effects of Social Media on Students By Danielle Goering

Negative Effects Leads to depression Poor communication skills Poor sleep patterns Waste of time Bad grades Glorifies negative behavior

Statistics 81% of Americans are involved with social media 90% percent of college students use social media 60-85% of college students Facebook profiles included content involving alcohol 29% of those Facebook users acknowledged posting pictures of themselves drinking alcohol 56% of the Facebook users admitted to posting pictures of their friends consuming alcohol 54% of tweets normalize marijuana and alcohol use

Future Jobs Employers passed on candidates due to social media… 46% said the candidate posted provocative information on social media 41% said the candidates posted information about drugs or drinking 36% said the candidate talked negatively about their previous job 32% said the candidate had bad communication skills 28% said the candidate posted discriminatory comments 21% said the candidate’s username on social media was inappropriate
