Consents to share information - Neil

It’s about data not activities

You have to know you are getting this right… ..as it is important. (SG/ICO)

Five of the data protection principles: Fair and lawful processing.. ..with subject’s consent Specified and lawful purpose Relevant, fit for purpose Accurate and up to date Only kept when necessary

May 2018 is important: GDPR It’s a Board level issue for the whole organisation Staff and volunteers need training on how to protect data You need to explain clearly why collecting personal data And how you are going to use it And consent must be freely given, informed and unambiguous

Some questions for you At what age is a young person generally considered able to give consent? If a child can’t give consent, who can give consent on their behalf? Do you need to have consent from the child before you receive information about a young person from social work?

Your data consent forms: from under 30 words to over 1,500 I give my consent for the coordinator to liaise with other agencies such as social work to discuss my child’s progress and share information as necessary YES/ NO

From a sample of eight consent forms: How many stated: the information that is being held who can see it the data subject’s rights to see the info How many explicitly ask for consent: to gather and record information to share information
