FUNCTIONAL SKILLS ICT

How to identify VLOOKUP questions?

When you open Task 2 you will see one complete table and one incomplete table.

In order to being your VLOOKUP question, you should highlight the cell you wish your answer to go into. In this example, it is F5. Next, you will click onto Formulas then Lookup and Reference and click onto VLOOKUP.

VLOOKUP is comprised of 4 areas. Choose a cell Select completed table and hit F4 Type in Column Number Always type ‘FALSE’ We have chosen A5 because this cell info repeats itself within our completed table

Once you have selected your ‘Lookup-Value’ you need to highlight and select the completed table and hit F4. F4: Cell Absolute Reference locks in your selected table and ensures your answers are only from table array. If you see closely $ signs in between your cells.

Column Index Number is associated with your ‘Table Array’. This number depends on how many columns are vertical. In this example you can see there are 2 columns. We can either choose 1 or 2. Now our answers is within 2nd column hence why we chose CIN 2. Finally, range lookup is ‘FALSE’ this is always the case when performing VLOOKUP functions.

Once you have completed VLOOKUP, drag down your first cell in order to repeat the function for the rest of the cells.
