Three Things Sin Will Do Hebrews 3:13

Introduction Sin is a terrible thing! Isa. 59:2; Rom. 6:23; 1 Jn. 4:10 Sin is a deceitful thing! Heb. 3:13 Sin deceives its victims and hardens their hearts (1 Tim. 4:2). For example The alcoholic The drug addict The gambler The adulterer Sin 1) Takes you farther than you wanted to go. 2) Keeps you longer than you wanted to stay. Costs you more than you wanted to pay.

Takes You Farther Than You Wanted To Go First drink, first ‘high,’ first bet is as far as most planned to go. End up trapped: full-blown alcoholic, drug addict, compulsive gambler, serial adulterer. Leads to other sins (2 Samuel 11 & 12).

Keeps You Longer Than You Wanted To Stay Easy to be blinded by the “passing pleasures of sin.” “I’ll quit tomorrow!”; “I can stop anytime I want!” Entanglement in sin is ugly! Rom. 6:16; 2 Pet. 2:20; 2 Tim. 3:13; 2 Samuel 11 & 12 Sin always entangles and entraps its victim! Remember David?! Rom. 13:14

Costs You More Than You Wanted To Pay Most never consider the various consequences of their sin. Recall David?! Sin has both temporal and eternal consequences. Matt. 16:26; Acts 5:1- 10 Remember David!? 2 Samuel 11 & 12

Conclusion “It can’t happen to me!” 1 Cor. 10:12 But, it can and it does! Matt. 5:28; Gal. 5:19-21; 1 Jn. 3:17; Matt. 25:46 Remember David!? Acts 13:22 Psa. 1:1-2; Prov. 4:14-15; 1 Cor. 6:9-10; Rom. 6:23; 1 Tim. 2:4
