What went wrong with PowerPoint? PowerPoint was created to make presentations come alive It’s easy to use There are many designs and animations to choose from You can add pictures and videos So what went wrong?
The Problem The problem with PowerPoint is that most people do not know how to use it properly They think that PowerPoint is a place to dump pictures, videos, and information They then stand beside the screen and read every word to you What’s wrong with that? People don’t know what to focus on. Do they listen to you? Do they read along with you? Stand beside the screen and read, as a non-example

When you make a PowerPoint and read every word on every slide, what you’ve done is taken what should have been your speaking notes and projected them for everyone to see. You can still make a PowerPoint for this presentation – but I don’t want to see it. You can make one, print it, and then use it as your speaking notes while you show us your actual presentation
