Chetilla is one of the poorest villages in the region of Cajamarca, with almost two thirds of people living in poverty. Education, or a lack of it, is a big problem for locals too - fewer than a quarter of the population have completed primary school, and over 13% are unable to read. Pastor Sam’s church in Southern Malawi is in an area with high levels of illiteracy

Tearfund partner Eagles in Malawi introduced new audio Bibles for the community in Pastor Sam’s village, for them to use in group Bible studies.

“It’s amazing what God is doing among us now that people are increasing their knowledge of the word of God.”

Pastor Sam says he has seen incredible social and spiritual change now that the community have access to the Word. There has been a marked decrease of gender-based violence in the village, and they are now working together to look at how they can improve the lives of everyone in the community.
