Click on the slide to start the timer and begin the test Be sure to place this presentation in Slide Show Mode if it is not already in that mode before proceeding The purpose of this drill is to help you improve your skill at finding answers to questions using the applicable fire codes and also to help increase your knowledge of the Fire Alarm codes. Each slide will contain a question. The question will remain in the screen for a period of 2 minutes then a notification will sound and the slide will transition to the next slide with the answer. After 15 seconds the next question will appear. During the test do not worry about the correct answers when those slide appear. You will be given an opportunity to review the answers with out the time at the end of the test. Click on the slide to start the timer and begin the test Instructions

NEC 1. A meeting room in a non-dwelling unit measures 15’ by 25’. What is the minimum number of floor box receptacle outlets required for this room? 1 2 3 4

Answer B. 2 210.71(b)(2)

NEC 2. In a ventilated trough cable tray, four conductor 10 AWG TC cable will be installed for 480V loads. The vented cable tray is 24” wide and is divided into two sections, One section is 18” and used for data and other cables. The 480V cables will be installed in the other 6” section reserved for power and light conductors. The cross sectional area of the cable is .501 inches. What is the maximum number of TC cables which can be installed in this cable tray? 7 10 13 15

Answer C. 13 392.22(1)(b)

NEC 3. High density polyethylene conduit (HDPE) size 3” may be used within a building. True False

Answer False 353.12(2)

NEC 4. A three phase, delta-wye transformer is rated at 480V/ 208V. It is feeding a 200 A, three phase, 208V panel with a 200A main breaker. The transformer is fed with an 100 ampere circuit breaker from a 480V panel. The secondary conductors are THHN 3/0 conductors and they are 8 feet in length. Is this an acceptable installation? Yes No

Answer Yes 240.21(C)(2)

NEC 5. A three, phase 480V to 208V transformer has a power rating of 35 kVA. What is the maximum sized circuit breaker that can be used for overcurrent protection for the transformer if it is protected only on the primary side? 45 amperes 50 amperes 60 amperes 75 amperes

Answer C. 60 amperes T 450.3(B) and 240.6

NEC 6. A three-phase, 208V piece of equipment is installed in a commercial building and located on the rooftop. The equipment is rated 50 amperes. The equipment is cord and plug connected. Is a GFCI receptacle required in this instance? Yes No

Answer A. Yes 210.8(B)(3)

NEC 7. A junction box which will contain conductors smaller than 6 AWG has a divider installed to separate power conductors from non-power conductors. The barrier is made of plastic and its volume allowance is not marked. What volume allowance shall be used for this barrier when calculating box fill? 1 cubic inch .75 cubic inch .66 cubic inch .5 cubic inch
