Table of contents Introduction Features of the Wood Process to make Wood The use of the Wood in construction Kind of Woods Plywood Wood skyscrapers

Introduction ¿what is the wood? Wood is a natural fiber that composes the trunks of trees and generates the structure that supports the leaves and branches of the cup. The wood grows around the trunk and each year that passes generates a ring long around the center of the trunk. While there are more rings in the trunk of a tree, he has more years.

Features of the wood Is very resistant in the direction of the fibers. It also depends on the type of wood. It is very good material to keep or isolate the heat. Not withstand fire Has a relatively light weight compared to other materials, Depends on the type of the wood too. Resists salt and moisture when properly cured It is a renewable resource. If forests are felled with environmental responsibility, not a problem for the environment

Process to make wood The creation of wood begins with felling trees that have the right size and width. After the cut, the wood is dried for at least three months in the sun and in some cases in a controlled temperature furnaces. Finally they cut into tables that vary in width and length according to existing standards.

Use of the wood in construction The wood, with the stone, was the first construction material used by the hand of the man. The first uses of the wood was the construction of nomadic huts that protected the weather, insects and poisonous snake Currently the main uses of wood are the creation of finishes, coatings and its use as a structural material definitive or removable (formwork)

Kinds of wood - Soft woods The softwoods are very easy to work, malleable, and light weight. The most common use of this woods is in structural applications. The most used softwood in the market is the pine. The softwoods grow up very fast, in eleven years the tree is ready to cut and transform in lumber. This feature permits cut down big forests and renew then in a few years.

Kind of woods - hard woods The main feature of hardwoods are its color, smell and resistance. The hardwoods are used in the manufacture of furniture, finishes, floors and coatings. There have a very high price. Working these woods is very delicate and requires much experience. Among them are the ebony, maple, chestnut and oak They grow very slow, requiring up to fifty years to be cleared.

PLYWOOD The plywood is a sheet material manufactured from thin layers or "plies" of wood veneer that are glued together with adjacent layers having their wood grain rotated up to 90 degrees to one another. That quality increase the resistant of the wood itself and upgrade the flexibility. It is a old method to create more resistant and useful wood that satisfact the lot of solicitations that have this material. .

Wood skyscrapers – The future of the cities In recent years buildings that have more of three floors have been built completely made of wood. The highest currently holds almost 60 meters high and 17 floors. This building is located in Vancouver, Canada. It is expected that the City of London build a skyscraper wood 80 stories high. The construction of these buildings is supported by the lower of resources requires the construction of wooden buildings, its speed of construction and that the wood is a renewable resource, unlike the concrete and steel that are not recoverable.

Conclusion Wood has been, is, and will remain a major player in the spaces in which humans inhabit. The consumption of CO2 in the fabrication of wood is much lower of the process to make steel or concrete. That is why we can not underestimate their potential and that with proper management of this resource we can improve our environment and all have a better future.
