A quick guide to the requirements Community Service A quick guide to the requirements

Why do we require community service? The required community service builds the culture of AACT. As you progress through each year, you’ll gain an appreciation for others through hard work and considerate acts. Each time you participate in community service you build community contacts for yourself and the school. These contacts could lead to future points of reference, chances at internships, and job opportunities. You will learn the importance of communication and the challenges that arise in teamwork, both skills crucial to any future path. Each community service you complete will contribute to your senior year capstone, which prepares you for your future beyond AACT.

how much will you complete? Freshmen Year 6 hours per semester of community service of your choice. Summer hours completed prior to the Fall semester can count towards the Fall semester requirements, but must have proper documentation and a legitimate point of contact for confirmation. Take pictures! Document your hard work. Sophomore Year 10 hours per semester of community service of your choice, but it’s suggested that you begin to consider what types of community service contribute to your Academy. Once again, take pictures! Junior Year 60 hours in the Fall semester as part of a team. This will be your Junior Service Project. Senior Year 80 hours throughout the school year that demonstrate you’ve considered a plan beyond AACT, and are working towards college/career readiness.

What is considered community service? The following is: The following is NOT: Time spent outside of school at a local school, church, charity, fundraisers, etc. No payment for your services. Participating in a Junior Service Project or Senior Capstone Project, as long as they don’t contradict the NOT list. Teacher run activities, such as a Knit-A- Thon, that are completed at school but during lunch or after school. Any activity completed during school hours. Projects completed for another class. Chores/babysitting for family. School extracurricular activities that are completed on your own time. E.g. Rover, dance setup, clubs.

How will you document your service? Each semester you will prepare two documents: Community Service Log Sheet You’ll be given one copy of this sheet. If you need additional or lose yours, please print a new copy from my website. When filling this out, please be accurate and honest on the hours. Give a detailed description of the work completed and full contact information along with a signature for the person who supervised your community service. This can not be your parents, unless they were exclusively involved in organizing the community service opportunity. I will sign the AACT Community Service Advisor Signature, only after I’ve reviewed it and confirmed your community service. Community Service Presentation One per semester A single slide with your name, location of service, and total number of hours. Include pictures!
