Theology of the Body for Teens Seventh Grade Curriculum 3.2 My, Myself, and I

Bellwork Read the following lines of Charles Peguy’s poetry. One alone and no other is both carnal and pure. Because the angels on one hand The angels are certainly pure, but they aren’t the least bit carnal. The have no idea what it is to have a body, to be a body. They have no idea what it is to be a poor creature… They don’t understand this mysterious bond, this created bond, Infinitely mysterious, Between the soul and the body… This, my child, is what the angels don’t understand… To have..The very body of Jesus. Write: Why didn’t God find a way to save us that didn’t involve his Son taking on our humanity?

Opening Prayer Lord, Help us, though this chapter, to recognize more fully the greatness of your love for each one of us and therefore the greatness of the human person. Amen.

To the Core—Main Ideas Read “Stained Glass Windows” (pages 26-28) Jot down the most important idea: Discuss choices My choices: We are complete only when body and soul are united. Human body is precious because it is united to the soul; together they make the human person. Sin damaged the closeness of the body and the soul.

Why is the body so special? Everything we know, we know through bodily interaction. It is beautiful to be a human being body and soul. The body can make visible what is invisible (spiritual and divine) The Incarnation shows us the love of the Trinity The Last Supper shows us the love of the Trinity Death on the cross shows us the love of the Trinity The Incarnation shows us what our humanity is supposed to look life.

Jesus shows us… Read p. 29: Paragraphs 2-4 Jesus’ life is like a mirror which shows the full truth of human nature. Read together p. 31 Looking at Jesus’ humanity is like looking in a mirror – we see our humanity as it should be
