Calendar Literacy Science Reminders Birthdays October 19-23, 2015 October 20 – Report Cards Go Out October 22 & 23 – I will be out these two days to travel with a group of our BETA students to a leadership summit in Sevierville, Tennessee October 26 – 30 – Red Ribbon Week *A paper with theme-days will be sent home soon October 30 – Halloween Party November 2 & 3 – No School Literacy This week in literacy, we are continuing our focus on sequence of events and using transition words, and we are adding on author’s purpose. We are learning the 3 reasons why an author writes a book: To persuade, to inform, and to entertain. When you read with your child at home, give them the three options and see if they can discover why the author wrote that book. We will not have fluency drill homework this week. Birthdays There are no October birthdays! Science Thank you so much for having your child bring in a “cool” rock. We are learning how and why rocks look different, and the students loved showing off and explaining about their rock. We did not get to our experiment like we had planned, so we will continue to work on discovering how water and wind cause slow changes to land this week! Reminders Please go over the report card with your child, sign, and return the following day (October 21). Once I receive all of the report cards, I will make a copy to send home for your records.
