SIBO: Clinical Strategies Class II Study Questions

8. In the test example (see next page), using the following positive criteria: Hydrogen ≥ 20ppm within the first 120 minutes  Methane ≥ 12ppm (3-11ppm with constipation) within 180 minutes Combined Hydrogen and Methane of 15ppm or more within 180 minutes Hydrogen Sulfide: Hydrogen and Methane <3ppm within 180 minutes What is the result without constipation present: negative or positive and for which gas(es)? What is the result with constipation present: negative or positive and for which gas(es)? Note: use this criteria, not the criteria listed on the report, as it may be different. 9. Should SIBO relapses be expected in the course of treatment? 10. What are the 4 main treatment options presented for SIBO? 11. What is a ‘Key SIBO Treatment Point for Success’? Study Questions 1. Is all IBS caused by SIBO? 2. Is bacterial analysis of stool samples useful in diagnosing SIBO? 3. Which type of test is validated for diagnosis of SIBO? 4. What is the advantage of lactulose over glucose for SIBO breath testing? 5. Why is it important to breath test for SIBO? 6. Why is it important to retest SIBO patients? 7. In the test example, how many treatment rounds of antibiotics or herbal antibiotics may be needed to normalize gas(es)?
