ROUGH STONE TRANSPORTATION IN QUARRIES BY G.Sowmesh Nithil S.Siddhaarth PSG COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY

Introduction Flash presentation Diagrammatic Presentation Equipments description Advantages Disadvantages Comparing graph Conclusion

Introduction In general heavy trucks are used in quarries to transport rough stones. Our project comprises of the following steps: Electric harbor crane should be set up on the boundary of the quarry such that the loading box is inside the quarry. The excavator will load the rough stones to the articulated truck. The articulated truck unload it into the loading box. The Electric harbor crane lifts the loading box containing stones from the quarry and places it near the bunger for the unloading of rough stones with the help of hydraulic power.

Flash presentation

Equipments Description 1.Quarry tipper 2.Excavator 3.Crusher 4.Harbor Cranes 5.Articulated Truck 6.Bunger

1.Quarry tipper 2.excavator Quarry tipper is used to take rough stones from quarries and transport it to the bunger tank. It is usually big and expensive. Its load capacity is 600 tonnes. It is a six wheeler. Excavator is used to load the rough stones into the tipper. It can rotate upto 360 degrees. Its load capacity is 5 tonnes. It has two chain wheels for better traction on the rocky surfaces.

3.Articulated truck 4.Harbor crane Harbor crane is used to transport container boxes from ships to the shore and vice versa. Its load capacity is 800 tonnes. It is fixed onto the shore. It is used to carry loads (rough stone) on steep slopes. Its capacity is 50 tonnes. It is a six wheeler. The movement of the cabin and the movement of the trailor are independent of each other(universal joint).

5.Bunger 6.Crusher It is used to store rough stones and then to feed it into the crusher through the feeder. It is located above the crusher. It is used to break down rough stone into gravels. Its size depends on the size of the stones.

ADVANTAGE No wear and tear of tyre, break, clutch Electrical consumption No need of construction of roads Higher depth in mining Reduction in number of vehicles Lower of accidents and frictions

Wear and tear of Tyre , Break , Clutch The tyres of the trucks used in quarries get damaged due to sharp stones (1 set tyre = Rs.18,000). Break shoes and clutch gets weared off soon (1 clutch plate= Rs.15,000). So this will be a unnecessary loss.

Electrical consumption Energy consumed by electric motor is lesser when compared to diesel engine. Thus the cost will be reduced. This will also reduce air pollution which is more in diesel engines.

Formation OF roads and bungers Roads are formed to transport stones from quarry to bunger. It is maintaned by watering and by grading. So it would be a waste of both water and time.

Higher depth We can excavate deeper without forming roads around the quarry. So there is no unnecessary use of land within quarry.

Reducing vehicles Transporting vehicles are reduced. Hence we can save money.

Lowering of accidents and friction Accidents are reduced. Generally the friction is maximum in the tipper’s tyres, bearing and ground banian. But the friction is greatly reduced in this method.

DisadvantageS Investment Blasting problem

Investment In this project the investment is high.

Blasting problem While blasting, the stone may hit the crane. This can be prevented by erecting a strong platform and by making strong beams & columns.

Comparing graph Comparing the graphs of diesel compressor and electric compressor in the quarry with efficiency and load, it is found that the electric compressor has twice the efficiency than the diesel compressor.

conclusion Hence this project is lot more efficient than the older method. We went to the crushing plant for direct visualisation of this method. Plant name: KANNAN BLUE METALS
