Review: Syllable Types Rain Ran Fir Fire Pond Pony Vowel Digraph Closed Syllable: a consonant after the vowel makes the vowel short R- Controlled: a vowel followed by an r signals r controlled syllable Final Silent e: the e at the end of the word signals that the first vowel sound is long Closed Syllable two Open Syllables: in a two syllable word, the y functions like a long e sound

The predicate nominative comes after the linking verb and renames the subject
