Welcome to Chorus! Dr. Cynthia Reinhardt

Thank you, parents! Studies have shown time and time again that students who participate in music groups show greater success academically, socially, cognitively, and personally than students who do not participate in performing groups. Studying music sets your child up for a lifetime of success. By giving your child an education that includes music, not only are you providing them with important values such as self discipline, patience, diligence and team work, but you are also giving them with a new found understanding and appreciation of the world around them and a sense of belonging and camaraderie that will last forever.

NCR 7 and 8th Grade Chorus Concerts 2016-17 Winter Concert -Tuesday, 12/13/16 at 8:00 in the NCR gym Spring Concert -Wednesday, 5/17/17 at 7:30 in the NCR gym Concert Attire Attendance is mandatory at all concerts.

Voice Lessons Voice Lessons take place during periods 1, 2, 5 OR 8. Students will be pulled a maximum of 1 time from those periods each quarter. Lessons are mandatory. It is where the real learning how to sing occurs. Students need to check with their teachers and pick up any classwork or homework before heading down to their lesson. If a student has lunch during their lesson, they are to eat first, then head to the music suite. Students who are absent from school or have an excused absence can make up the lesson for full credit. Students who miss their lesson and it is not excused may make it up for half credit. Only 1 missed lessons may be made up for ½ credit at the end of each quarter.

Performing Opportunities at NCR NCR Vocal Jazz Vocal Jazz Club-an auditioned group of about 30 singers. Open to all students in grade 6-8. We sing fun, swinging jazz music. We will participate in SCMEA Jazz Day in February and our own Jazz Night concert with the High School groups in May. Auditions will be held in mid October. We rehearse Friday mornings from 6:45-7:30 and have 1 evening rehearsal per month on a Tuesday night from 7-8:30.

SCMEA Suffolk County Music Educators Association Each year, music students are nominated to represent Miller Place at the Suffolk County Music Educators All-County Festival in March. This nomination is based on a NYSSMA score (if there is one), strong musical ability, excellent class participation, and a positive work ethic. If chosen, students will need to be available for all rehearsals and performances in March. It is a huge honor to be nominated and chosen.

NYSSMA New York State School Music Association Each year, NYSSMA holds auditions throughout the state to give music students the ability to receive comments from working professional musicians and singers. NYSSMA will be held at Bellport High School in April. It is an excellent goal to have students work towards. I teach an appropriate level song (Level 2 for 6th grade, Level 3 for 7th grade and level 4 for 8th grade), as well as sight singing to all chorus members during class and lessons, but it is highly recommended interested students work with a private teacher to best prepare them for their audition. Please contact me if you need a teacher recommendation.

Long Island Music Festival (Tentatively set for June 10, 2017) All music students can participate in the Long Island Music Festival. In the morning, students are bussed to Suffolk Community College in Brentwood to participate in a public workshop where music professionals work with the group. We then head to Splish Splash for the afternoon. This trip is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th grade music ensemble members and the cost is around $58 without a seasons pass, $28 with the pass. It is a great experience and the students have a great time!

“Without music, life would be an error.” -Friedrich Nietzsche
