Alberta Alignment (EDT-SEG Application) To request a match to the CFI contribution from the Government of Alberta, Alberta Alignment Module will be submitted to Alberta Ministry of Economic Development and Trade along with a copy of the JELF application that was submitted to the CFI Although the Alberta Alignment will not be submitted to the CFI in June, June JELF applicants are to develop their provincial application concurrently with their JELF application EDT-SEG applications will be submitted to EDT by RSO in October

Free space to enter Alberta Alignment text. Note: Project Title is to be same as CFI JELF title Free space to enter Alberta Alignment text. Note: limit is approximately 5000 characters The form provides a second blank page. This is only to be used for multi-institutional proposals. Same amount as CFI request Questions to Address Please note formatting requirements

Alberta Alignment Module Applicants must address four questions: How will the proposed infrastructure advance provincial outcomes and the institution’s research priorities? Provincial outcome priorities: Economic Diversification and Job Creation Environmental Leadership and Climate Leadership Special consideration to projects that align with the Government of Alberta’s Climate Leadership Plan Effective Resource Management Engaged Individuals and Communities for a Healthy Alberta Institutional priorities: outlined in University of Alberta Comprehensive Institutional Plan * Ref: Research Capacity Program Guidelines, 2017-2018

Alberta Alignment Module 2. The expected benefits of the proposal for Alberta and how these will be realized? Specify tangible benefits of your research program Examples of Alberta-based companies that will benefit from research? Existing companies that you plan to collaborate with? Spin-off companies that are expected to form as a result of the research? New products/prototypes that will be developed? Social, economic, environmental or health benefits from the research program? * Ref: Research Capacity Program Guidelines, 2017-2018

Alberta Alignment Module 3. How the proposed research infrastructure will contribute to attraction and/or retention of talent, as well as overall research excellence in Alberta? Expand on “Researchers” and “Training of HQP” sections of CFI-JELF proposal to outline provincial significance Specify how many HQP will be trained in the use of the equipment in the first 5 years 4. How does the infrastructure relate to existing infrastructure at the institution and other post-secondary institutions in Alberta? Expand on information in the CFI-JELF proposal about similar infrastructure, stressing provincial significance If similar infrastructure exists elsewhere, justify why applicant also should acquire infrastructure * Ref: Research Capacity Program Guidelines, 2017-2018

Tips for Success Alberta Alignment Module is to build on Benefits to Canadians by outlining benefits of the proposal to Alberta Address each of the four questions in order Provide headings to show where answers to each question can be found *For EDT-SEG applications matched to Unaffiliated JELF proposals with a CFI request of $400,000 or less.

Tips for Success For EDT-SEG proposals submitted between Oct. 2014 to Oct. 2016 intakes: 47/50 EDT-SEG applications awarded (94% success rate)* Total excludes 11 JELF applications submitted during this period that were not funded by the CFI (corresponding EDT-SEG proposals were not assessed by EDT) Total includes EDT-SEG award for a project that was partially funded by the CFI Multi-disciplinary provincial review panel has access to expert reviewer comments obtained during CFI review process Rationale provided by EDT reviewers for rejections follows from concerns that were also raised by CFI expert reviewers *For EDT-SEG applications matched to Unaffiliated JELF proposals with a CFI request of $400,000 or less.
