Ability Awareness Week Ms. Hasan& Ms. Truxaw Hi! I am Able.

This is Able! Able is here to help us celebrate who we are and what makes us unique! Able has special abilities and so do you! Sometimes we have to work hard to be ABLE to do something and sometimes it is easy. We are here to show you what it might feel like to have to work hard to be ABLE to show off our abilities.

This activity will show you what it might feel like if attention and focus are hard for you. We will try to teach you how you can either solve your problem, or help your friends be successful!  https://www.understood.org/en/tools/through-your-childs-eyes https://www.understood.org/en/tools/through-your-childs-eyes/player?simq=66dc223a-29e3-4956-ae1e-e7b1beff3584&standalone=true&simulation=true

How did that make you feel? If you felt like that while your teacher was teaching, would you like learning? Did you know people with ADHD feel like that most of the time?  Do you know what ADHD is?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder ADHD is a disability that makes paying attention to one thing really hard.  People with ADHD often pay attention to everything making it hard to focus on just one thing. ADHD might give a person the wiggles, or it might make them look like they are day dreaming. Is it okay to have ADHD?

Yes! Walt Disney Will Smith Justin Timberlake Jeff Kinney However, you must be proactive and use your tools to be successful and not make excuses!

Tools Thera-bands Disco seat Fidget- squishy, rock, fabric, Velcro, putty  Study carrel Head phones or ear plugs Break Walk  Timer iPod, music Extra time  Quiet place to work

Responsibility Whose job is it to let your parents or teachers know if attention is hard for you?  How can you help your friends who struggle with attention?  You need to be responsible and help yourself if you want to reach your goals. You can do this by talking your parents or your teachers. If you are a good friend and are living the Dragon Way, you need to help your friends by being caring and balanced.

Remember you are ABLE!
