Steps of the PPA Define the Problem Gather the Evidence Identify the Causes Examine the Existing Policy Develop Policy Solutions Select the Best Solution (Feasibility and Effectiveness)

Define the Problem There are too many illegal immigrants in the United States.

Identify the Causes for Immigration What is an illegal immigrant? What does it mean to migrate? Are you an immigrant? Why would someone come to the U.S. illegally?

Gather the Evidence immigratio_to_NYC_js.pptx

What are some causes for migration? Push/Pull Factors Task: Read some letters from immigrants to determine why some people migrated to New York City. Who emigrated to NYC? What countries did they come from? What were some push/pull factors?

Examine the Existing Policy The security, economy, and social fabric of the United States of America is seriously threatened by individuals who are illegally in this country. They are undocumented, live in the shadows in the country. The number of illegal immigrants currently in the States is uncertain. Estimates range from nearly 12 million (Pew Hispanic Research Cen- ter, 2008), to 13 million (Federation for American Immigration Reform, 2007), up to 20 million (Bear Stearns Report, January 2005). It is also not known just who these people are, exactly where they came from or what their intentions might be. Amnesty is on of the biggest policies and it has led to problems with immigration. Existing Policy regarding illegal immigrations - Bing

Develop Policy Solutions Based on the information you have learned what can we do to fix the problem? Give three suggestions using the source below. Existing Policy regarding illegal immigrations - Bing Illegal Immigration | Federation for American Immigration Reform
