Overview of Study Tour - CNUR 210 AA CNUR 210 AA (Selected Topics in Nursing) - International Nursing Study Tour (Malawi) 3cr elective course Aim: To provide the students with the opportunity to learn about the context of nursing from an international perspective. Overview of Study Tour – CNUR 401 CNUR 401 – Theory & Practice Education: Population Health and Community Partnerships (6 cr) This course focuses on community and population health. Learners will have the opportunity to explore nursing roles and integrate primary health care and nursing theory and practice related to community health and development in a variety of community settings . Note: The theory portion of this course is offered online. Course Description: This course will focus on community and population health. Learners will have the opportunity to explore nursing roles and integrate primary health care and nursing theory and practice related to community health and development in a variety of community settings.

Overview of the Study Tour-CNUR 401 (cont.) For Year 4 Students 1 week at Kamuzu college of Nursing 3 weeks at Transformative Praxis: Malawi Activities: CNUR 401 related plus the following: Community health and development Inter-professional education/practice/collaboration Generating solutions with community Understanding resiliency and sustainability Enacting values and principles of community development Social justice Sight Seeing   Cultural experiences Clinical observational experience Experience the cross cultural health and nursing care Engagement in community development Sight Seeing

Eligibility and Prerequisite for Study Tour Students in good academic standing that have successfully completed years 1 to 3 of the SCBScN program for NURS 210 AA or registered in CNUR 401 An undergraduate GPA of at least 70% No records of unprofessional conduct Ability to pay all expenses related to the experience Eligible for a Canadian passport for travel

Student Responsibility Ensure you have taken the required vaccinations for travel Apply for the International travel fund at the U of R and Saskatchewan Polytechnic Ensure registration in the course Purchase sufficient International Travel Insurance Possibly conduct fund raising to assist in fundraising for the study tour

Application Deadline Application forms for the study tour can be accessed through U of R International office The deadline to apply is February 15, 2018.

UR International will... Conduct a pre-departure information session in early March, 2018 Provide the application for the travel fund Provide visa information Assist with the visa application Scholarship information

Cost of Study Tour The cost of the Study Tour will be between $4200-$4500. The final fee is dependent on the air fare. NOTE: The program fee will be potentially offset by $1000 to $2000 for students qualifying for the U of R international travel fund and the Saskatchewan Polytechnic International Mobility Award (i.e., those students with a 70% average, will have completed 30 credit hours prior to leaving).

Host Institution-Kamuzu College of Nursing (KCN) Kamuzu College of Nursing, established in 1979 as a constituent college of the University of Malawi, prepares the most qualified nursing and midwifery personnel for the Malawian nation.  CN has two campuses 400 km apart (Lilongwe and Blantyre) and also provides leadership at curriculum level to a variety of nursing colleges across the country. Limited number of tutors and preceptors Deployment and retention of tutors-career pathway Limited resources for theoretical and clinical teaching-skills labs, infrastructure Inadequate clinical sites because of large intakes in colleges Lack of role models in clinical setting
