Victorian Wedding Rituals

Overview Weddings were a highly valued part of Victorian culture and usually highly elaborate They had many superstition-based beliefs and rituals Basically, a Victorian girl’s only purpose in life was to get married. It was their PASSION!

Summary A Victorian girl's wedding day was the most important day of her life, therefore it had to be perfect They believed that June was the best month to get married in because it is the month of Juno, the marriage goddess The day of the week was important too. Marrying on Monday and Tuesday meant wealth, Wednesday was the best day, Thursday meant crosses, Friday meant loss, and Saturday meant no luck at all Wedding included three cakes: one for the guests, the bride, and the groom. The bride's cake wasn't eaten at the wedding, but it was put away and saved to be eaten on the couple's 25th wedding anniversary.
