We will practice writing the letter “a” and talk about what sound “a” makes. Ask your child to go through the animals with you. Preschool News Continued 8/30/13 Box Top$ We do collect Box Top$. They are found on General Mills & Betty Crocker products. Please cut off the label and send to school with your child. Each label is worth $.10. We are able to use the money to help pay for extra supplies for our classroom. FYI If your child is sick or is going to miss school for any reason please call the school and let us know. (785) 382-6216 S.P.O.T. Books There is a blank white page in the front of the S.P.O.T. books. Feel free to write us notes here and we will do the same for you. Also, please make sure you are checking these and returning them to school everyday. Book Orders There are book orders in your child’s S.P.O.T. book today. The orders will be due on Tuesday, September 3rd. Spanish We have switched Spanish to Mondays, so we will not be starting until 9/7. Transportation If your child is being picked up from Centralia Schools by someone other than who normally does we must have a note. We have had bus drivers having to make phone calls to see where kids were supposed to go. Also, the bus will only wait a max of 2 minutes at your house. If they don’t see you after 2 minutes they will take your child to the Frankfort or Centralia schools to be picked up there. Homework There will be a monthly homework packet sent home at the beginning of every month. Initial in the box once you have completed the activity. If your child returns the packet completed at the end of the month they will receive a prize. Grandparent’s Day Please pass on the invitation for Grandparent's day to your child’s grandparents. Let me know if you need more than 2 and I can send more home. Also, if you would like your child to go home with their grandparent after our celebration please send a note to let us know. Water Bottles Please send a water bottle with your child. It is very hot on the bus as well as outside during recess. They can keep them in the classroom during the day and drink as needed.

Preschool News Continued 8/30/13 Baseline Data I am sending home your child’s baseline data sheet. If they knew the letter, color, shape, or number they have a checkmark. Please don’t worry if they only have a few checkmarks. They aren’t supposed to know everything yet, that is why they are at school. At the bottom of their page I wrote a short note letting you know how your child is doing at school. I have explained below what the different abbreviations mean on the baseline data sheet. UC – Uppercase Letters LC – Lowercase Letters Sounds – (Most 3 year olds don’t know the letter sounds yet) Colors – Recognition Shapes – Recognition Counting Rote – Being able to count 1,2,3,4, etc. Objects – Pointing to blocks and counting each block. (most students don’t have a 1 to 1 correspondence yet, meaning that they might count to 20, but they aren’t actually counting 20 items. They are just counting.) Numbers – Recognition
