5th Grade Newsletter September 4th, 2015 9/7: No School (Labor Day) 9/10: Boy Scout Sign-Ups in Gym 9/11: Product Sale Ends 9/14-9/21: Getting to Know You Conferences 9/21: Girl Scout Sign-Ups in Gym (6-8pm) 9/22: Math Night (invitations coming soon) 9/25: Early Release (12:45) 10/5: Reading Night (information coming!) 10/10: Fall Festival Breakfast Club Please remind your child to get breakfast from the cafeteria before coming to Breakfast Club each morning. Students may then head to either Café, Homework Helpers, or Passion Time until 8:05. Agendas Please check and sign your child’s agenda EACH NIGHT (even on the weekends). If your child has not written their assignments down, please do not sign the agenda. They have an opportunity to write their assignments in each of their core classes and in homeroom. If no homework was assigned, your child should have an “X” or “no homework” written in that space. Nightly Homework Each night, your child will have homework in Reading and in Math. Reading homework will consist of reading a novel for 20 minutes and completing an RRJ prompt. Math homework will usually come home on a separate sheet of paper. Please assist your child when needed, but encourage your child to work on his or her own. Remember, they may always come to Homework Helpers in the morning for extra assistance! Math Your child is learning math in a completely different manner from which you were taught! We understand that this creates difficulties at home. Therefore, we are planning several Math Nights throughout the year to provide opportunities for you to learn what and how your child is learning. The first Math Night will be held on September 22nd. The schedule is as follows: 1st Period: 5:00-5:30 2nd Period: 5:45-6:15 3rd Period: 6:30-7:00 Please come prepared with questions! ***If you have more than one child in fifth grade and they are in different class periods, you may choose which session to attend! Math Nights will be held in Miss Quackenboss’ room (099). Reminders The product sale will end on September 11th. Please remember to send in your money and order forms on that day! Your child should wear or bring tennis shoes EACH day for PE! Please check your child’s Class Dojo report each night. We will be sending messages through Class Dojo frequently! If you haven’t signed up to connect to your child’s account, please make sure you do that soon!
