Training for the Learning Assessment Software The learning assessment software will help you administer a learning assessment and collect results quickly. You have two options for administering an assessment. Online. This option allows students to use a computer or mobile device to complete the learning assessment. The assessment is automatically scored, and students receive a report that shows their score and which questions they missed. Print. This option allows students to use paper and a pencil to complete the learning assessment. Each bubble sheet has a unique code for each student. You will scan the bubble sheets, and they will be automatically scored. After the learning assessment is scored, you can view a class report of the most missed questions. The software will also automatically update students’ records in WISE.

Section 1: Begin using the Learning Assessment Software to access/administer the learning assessment. Learning Assessment Website Also in Gospel Library App (select Seminaries and Institutes—Seminary—Seminary Learning Assessments) la.ldschurch.org

Section 2: The following training modules have been created to help teachers become familiar with the software. How to enable an online assessment or print the unique bubble sheets and upload them. (PDF handout, Online Demo) How to see the student and class reports. (PDF handout, Online Demo) Link For students, instructions for taking the online assessments. (PDF handout, Online Demo) Administering past assessments for current students. (PDF handout, Online Demo) How to upload the bubble sheets using the ScanNGrade app, rather than emailing them to la@ldschurch.org (PDF handout, Online Demo)

Section 3: A little training is needed to avoid user errors that cause the experience to be troubling for teachers or students. (Example slides 6-9) Not selecting the appropriate year/term or clicking on “Switch to View Past Classes” before viewing reports or giving the assessment. Not using the drop-down menu to select the assessment “With Belief and Apply” Not clicking on the class name to access the individual and class reports. Online assessment: Not ensuring students have an LDS Account before enabling the online assessment. Not enabling the assessment beforehand or enabling too soon. Clicking the browser back button instead of the question previous/next arrows.* Not evaluating the response for the explain questions when completing the online assessment. Paper to digital method (i.e., printing and uploading the unique bubble sheets): Not clicking “fit to page” when printing the bubble sheets. The bubble sheet should have a border around it. Having students write or mark the bubble sheets beyond just darkly filling in the bubbles. Not uploading the bubble sheets as a JPEG or PDF (not as a .tif file).* Sending the bubble sheets to the Central Office, rather than to la@ldschurch.org Using the old generic sheet, rather than printing the bubble sheet from the learning assessment software. For issues or feedback email: la-feedback@ldschurch.org *Not mentioned in PDF or online demonstration training that is available.

Section 4: Piloting additional learning opportunities in the learning assessment software. In 37 languages. In English only. In English only. Positive benefits: Information to help teachers learn how much students are learning throughout the semester.
