RESULTS OF THE PREPARATORY MEETING FOR V REMCYT (1) Held in Washington DC on September 26 and 27, 2017, at OAS in Washington D.C.; Roundtables on Innovation Indicators and Transformative Technologies with regional leaders and experts on September 25, 2017; Draft Declaration of Medellin approved by consensus; Aligned with the Objectives of the OAS Comprehensive Strategic Plan and Resolutions of GA and CIDI on Integral Development –(Strategic Line 1. Promoting inclusive and Competitive Economies) Objetive 1.3. Increase cooperation for strengthening member states’ institutional capacities to incorporate innovation and transformative technology in order to generate added value and diversification in their economies in a sustainable and inclusive way.” Transformative technologies: include AI, Big Data, Robotics, Advanced manufacturing and materials, 3D printing, augmented reality, presicion agricultura, personalized medicine, etc

RESULTS OF THE PREPARATORY MEETING FOR V REMCYT (2) Reconognition to the work and results of the Working Group and leadership of Member OAS States; Call to deepen and strengthen the implementation of the Action Plan of Guatemala at the level of the working groups and cross-cutting themes; Importance of asigning technical, human and financial resources to participate in the activities of COMCYT and WGs WG1: Deepen the work on innovation indicators and incorporate experiences on transformative technologies and innovation; WG2: Mobility-more emphasis on practical interaction among industry and universities, focused on concrete projects and solutions to existing problemas. Improve linkages research-private sector-society. Expand opportuntities to develop talent with qualifications and flexibility to adapt to Industry 4.0.

RESULTS OF THE PREPARATORY MEETING FOR V REMCYT (3) WG3: More connection with competitiveness (RIAC) and SMEs (Inter-American Dialogue) with QICA; WG4: HUB+: Hosting HUBs in different countries of the región (EI: institutions in Chile, Colombia, Brazil, HON, ESA, Caribbean, México) Incorporate to all WGs the consideration of the impact of transformative technologies and technology prospecting; Specific policies and programs to support the inclusión of women, girls and other population in situation of vulnerability on S&TI; Promote multisectorial collaboration to share innovative policies and programs of regional collaboration to support the develeopment of talent profiles necessary for the Jobs of the future;

RESULTS OF THE PREPARATORY MEETING FOR V REMCYT (4) Recommentations to the Summit of the Americas process (Lima, Perú, April 2018) -Best efforts to increase investment in S&TI; -Reconognize the impact of the transformative technologies in sustainable development and as a tool to battle corruption, strenghten democracy and gobernability.

New Triennial Cycle CIDI REMCYT & COMCYT STEP 1 V REMCYT GOAL Susbtantial dialogue on Public Policies between the Member States; Identify regional tendencies and priorities; Exchange of experiences and best practices; Cooperation opportunities RESULTS Resulting documents Political Declaration which outlines the regional vision on the theme - Declaration of Medellin; Plan of Action, or its updated version (Plan of Action of Guatemala + Declaration of Medellin) TIMEFRAME Held no more than once every 3 years (PANAMA 2011, GUATEMALA MARCH 2015, COLOMBIA NOVEMBER 2017) AUDIENCE Government Officials at the level of Ministers or designated High Level Authorities; Open to the representation of International Organizations, Civil Society Institutions and other actors
