Help the new student using the given prompts: Stationery shop (give directions) Cafeteria (give directions) Study room (give directions) (weekdays: 3 pm to 5 pm) You are a new student at this university. You don’t know the facilities at this university and you need help. Use the following prompts to get some information: Where/buy pens and notebooks? Where /buy something to eat? Where/study? A student comes and asks for help. Find out exactly what the situation is. Explain what is needed to apply for a dorm: Choose the dormitory s/he wants, complete a form, pay deposit…etc. Answer all of A’s questions about dormitories. Repeat any information. You are a new student, and you want to apply for accommodation in one of the on-campus dormitories. You go to the receptionist at the accommodation office and ask for help. Explain the situation. Ask what you need to do to apply for a dorm. Ask for more details: ask how much it costs to stay at the dorm, if the meals are included in the price, if there is laundry service available…etc. Check your understanding. Ask for repetition when necessary.

A customer needs help. Talk to him/her. Welcome the customer and offer help. Show some products and explain their qualities. Help him/her try the shoes on. Tell him/her the price. Ask how s/he wants to pay: credit card or cash? You are a customer in a shoe shop. You don’t know what to buy. Ask for help. Tell him/her you are not sure about which pair of shoes to buy. Choose a pair and ask for a different color and size. Ask if you can try them on. Ask for the price. Say you want to buy the shoes and pay for them.

You have a serious problem with your food. Get the waiter’s attention. Complain about your problem: You’ve just seen a hair in your meal. Thank the waiter. You are a waiter at a restaurant, and one of the customers has a problem with his/her food. Go to his/her table and ask how you can help. Apologise for the mistake. Offer a solution that will make him/her happy. Apologise again.

You get angry because you think it is wrong. Talk to him. Tell your roommate your opinion. Support your opinion with reasons. Disagree with his/her reasons. You stay at a dormitory with a roommate, and your roommate sees you downloading songs for free. S/he gets angry, but you think there is nothing wrong about it. Talk to him. Disagree with your roommate politely. Explain your reasons. Agree with his/her opinion in the end.
