Motivation is what drives life! Edward L. Deci Motivation is what drives life!

About me I am a professor of Social Sciences at the University of University of Rochester. I hold a PH.D. in psychology from Carnegie-Mellon University I studied at the University of Pennsylvania, the University of London, and Hamilton College. I also worked at Stanford University. I was born in 1942

Theories For forty years now I've been working on theories regarding motivation and what causing people to pursue things I have published ten books, including Intrinsic Motivation, The Psychology of Self-Determination and many more All of what I've been working on and all my research has lead me to co- founding the Self-determination Theory

Relating to the text Cognitive Evaluation Theory is a sub-theory of SDT that specifies factors explaining intrinsic motivation and variability with it and looks at how social and environmental factors help or hinder intrinsic motivations. CET focuses on the needs of competence and autonomy In the chapter 8, we talk about cognitive perspective and the role of reinforcement, rewards or punishment Claiming social context events like feedback on work or rewards lead to feelings of competence and so enhance intrinsic motivations. I found positive feedback enhanced intrinsic motivations and negative feedback diminished it

Rounding up Self-determination theory, when applied to education, is concerned primarily with promoting in students an interest in learning, a valuing of education, and a confidence in their own capacities This comes from students being intrinsically motivated My research suggests that this process result in high-quality learning and conceptual understanding, as well as enhanced personal growth and adjustment Basically, if the students get their psychological needs satisfied, they will learn, that’s what needs to happen in the classroom
