Reducing energy use Coxhoe Primary School

Why should we save energy? ...and who for? Because the earth only has so much coal, like a special Birthday cake once its gone its gone so we should use it wisely. Because it costs the school a lot of money we could be spending on other good things like school trips! Because most energy is made by burning coal and gas which causes pollution which is bad for us and the environment. for us for them

This is our planet, the Earth. If we keep wasting energy it will damaged beyond repair!!! We only have one.

If everyone on the earth used the planet's resources like us we would need 3.1planets! Megan

But if everyone on the earth used the planet's resources like… India, we would only need 0.4 planets… Megan or Malawi, 0.3 planets.

Can we really make a difference? It’s true that we are just one school but… there are over 200 primary schools in County Durham and over 20,000 primary schools in the UK! Lewis

Can we really make a difference? If we do our bit, and every other school does their bit, then we really can make a big impact! Jack

Can we really make a difference? All to say: By taking small actions we can make a BIG difference!

We produced 81.5 tonnes of CO2 In 2010-11 we spent £14,662 on Energy (Gas and Electric) This is £69/pupil/year We produced 81.5 tonnes of CO2 this cost us £978 Megan

If we reduce our energy costs by £30/pupil/year We could save £6,356 to spend on other things in school Lewis

This is a graph of the energy we used over a week earlier this month. What do you notice? Jack asks question: What do you notice on the graph?? It shows that even when we are not in school we still use precious energy – but look at how much we use when we are in school.

In school council we came up with these ideas to save energy.... What can we do? In school council we came up with these ideas to save energy.... Jack

We can turn off our computers when we are finished with them. Jack

Switch off our projectors when we are not using them. Jack D

Switch off our lights when we leave a room… … and only switch on the ones we really need. Megan

Remember what the dots mean on a light switch? Lewis to explain

Turn off equipment we are not using and don’t leave them on standby. What do the spots mean on a wall socket? Megan

Together we can .. reduce our energy costs reduce our emissions of CO2 and help protect our planet Jack

PLEASE HELP US! all
