Think carefully about the choices you have… Bad reasons for choosing subjects/ courses Your friends are doing it You like the teacher You think its better to stick with what you know You think a subject is ‘girls’ or ‘boys’

Good reasons for choosing subjects/ courses It is directly linked to what you want to do in the future. It is a good facilitating subject It genuinely interests you

Where to get advice: Careers Adviser Subject teachers Careers teachers Information provided by schools/ colleges Parents and friends Careers information and resources in the library

Choices after leaving school: College Academic or vocational courses Apprenticeships and work-based learning Employment (with training)

Choices after leaving school Further Education Lots of different courses available at lots of different places! Can stay on at the Sixth Form or go on to College Courses can be academic or vocational Look at the qualification table on the careers page to see if this is for you

Choices after leaving school Apprenticeships and work-based learning Learning in the workplace and usually going to a college or training provider one day a week or fortnight. Lots of vocational areas are covered. Usually employed so get the same benefits as an employee and receive a minimum wage of £3.50 an hour. Look at good and bad points… talk it through with someone

Choices after leaving school Remember…. Its your choice!!! For the first time, you choose where to go and what to study. Think about all the options available to you. Do your research!
