The EU Referendum Thought for the Week

History of the EU

What does being in the European Union mean for us? We can travel wherever we want in the EU without having to apply for a special visa. This means you could get a job or go to university in any of these countries fairly easily. We can sell things made here to Europe more easily than to other countries. We get lots of projects invested in by the EU.

Technocamps – who have run lots of activities for us in and out of school, are funded by the European Union.

The community route along the Church Village bypass was created with EU money.

The Pontypridd Lido was redeveloped last year with £3 million of EU funding

Over half a million homes in Wales now have broadband thanks to the £89 million EU funded Superfast Cymru programme.

Bike Park Wales, near Merthyr Tydfil was created with £2 million of EU funds.

The proposed South Wales metro which includes Pontyclun and Talbot Green needs £150 million of EU investment.

Lots of town and city centres have been regenerated in Wales with EU funding.

How does the EU impact Wales?

On 23rd June we are having a referendum in the UK to decide whether to: Leave the European Union (this is what is known as “Brexit”) or to Remain a member of the European Union

There are two campaigns: think we should remain a member. think we should leave the EU.
