Mobile Tech for Asset Management Welcome to our presentation, “ Mobile Tech for Asset Management.” I’m Chris Whitehead & my colleague Stuart Oakes will take you through a demonstration in due course. November 2017
Contents Communications trends The modern mobile platform Implications for asset management Software case study Application case study So, we’ll be broadly covering the following: Communication Trends, we are going digital, it is happening Modern Mobile Platform, what has fundamentally happened to make this a reality, connectivity, hardware etc Implications for Asset Management, Why is this better? What will this do to improve your business process, help you reduce costs and improve quality A couple of case studies, “real life” solutions Then we’ll finish with a software demonstration Questions at the end??
Benefits Use drop downs, radio buttons, grids etc to drive consistent input Use photos and video - “tells a thousand words” Key data date, time and location stamped for assurance purposes Fields can be made mandatory, no missed data Logic displays only the questions relevant to a particular asset, saving time Try to move away from free typing, use predefined fields, dropdowns, radio buttons, these will drive consistent data capture, which then can produce meaningful MI. Photos/videos add clarity and save time. Data is date, time and location stamped, so there is no disputing what happened when. Mandatory fields, data cannot be “accidentally” missed. Logic keeps the specific data capture “clean” only displaying
Historic issues Requires an internet connection Hardware is specialist and expensive User hostile No interface with established databases It’s mobile, it will need an internet connection. Solution works completely offline, apart from sending and receiving jobs! The cost is the person in the vehicle, they MUST be able to complete their job/inspection/survey, gather the necessary data WITHOUT having to revisit. Historically, reliance on specialist, expensive hardware. Does anyone have one of these? (pick your phone up) We “all” do this, input data, if we don’t use one of these, then we access our banks, buy stuff etc. etc. We expect a high level of “useability,” this delivers this, logic drives relevant path through data, hides unnecessary inputs etc. Historically, “connecting” this data to existing systems has been difficult and expensive, not this, we can connect easily.
Converging trends Hardware speed and storage Device agnostic operating platforms 4G Networks Common data transfer protocols Hardware now “up to the job” enough storage, processing power etc. Works on both IOS and Android platforms, no need to standardise across the organisation 4G, although offline solution, connectivity gets better all the time, being connected allows transfer of information in real time if required Data is handled far more universely, most systems have API or are SQL based
Offline capability Driven by on-board storage A whole day’s inspection data can be stored To be uploaded when the tablet returns to an area of network coverage Although connectivity is improving al the time, relying on it to work is “not an option!” All functionality, apart from sending and receiving jobs is available offline. Therefore, there will never be wasted time going to site, the data will be abled to be captured for later submission. It is often useful to compare historic data to make judgements of present condition etc. Previous surveys can be recalled for reference. There is a built in audit trail which captures who, when and where any data was captured and/or amended.
Integration capability Direct database connection – Formation can integrate with any SQL/MySQL database system API – A full suite of REST APIs are available We are adding a mobile layer to existing systems Mobile only adds value if it can connect to existing IT infrastructure. Your organisation will have existing IT, Formation either by direct connection into any mySQL or SQL system or by API can connect and add a mobile layer to your existing platforms. Therefore, reducing business disruption.
The modern mobile platform Easy to use – intuitive for mobile users, minimal training requirements Cost-effective <£500 per operative per year including hardware Seamless interface between data capture unit and asset management database Lightweight Damaged assets readily replaced without interrupting the process Talk around bullet points
Formation Works on Android and/or IOS Click and drag to create forms to your specification, includes photos, video, signatures etc, branded as required Users updated on login Logic to target data capture, no trawling through non required fields Can be deployed on current user devices and/or procure inexpensive devices. Workforce can have a “mix and match” approach it doesn’t matter. You are not constrained, by “standard” forms, you decide what you need, your users see what they are “used to,” this minimises training of field based staff. Hence what they already do by adding photos, video and signatures. Update on login, no positive action required by users
Case Studies Northern Power Grid, (NPG) digitise their field based H&S audits, produce real time information and consistent MI Central Statistics Office (CSO) Eire digitise the data collection of monthly pricing data, (c50,000) per month, reduced process from 4 weeks to 1 week Connect Plus (M25) – over 150 inspections, achieving a 40% productivity gain High Speed One – over 1,000 inspections NPG
