COLLAPSIBLE SKI-BIKE Final Presentation 6/2/2016 Group Members: Jesse Harris Sheik Ameen Brian McShane Nicholas Pauly Ekendra Goravani Nha Nguyen

Project Background Project Statement: Make improvements to functionality of 2015 model. Design Goals: Improve pack-ability Add a braking system Reduce weight Limit loose parts Budget: $1000

2015 Test Results The Good The Bad The Ugly The overall rider geometry worked well and it was comfortable to ride. The Bad The air shock stopped working after a few minutes of testing. The foot pegs rotated around. The Ugly Very awkward to transport. Sharp corners posed threat.

External Search Other commercially available ski-bikes: Mostly out of Europe, but some from Colorado Seats and suspension were common throughout Brakes were considered add on feature Prices ranged from $1500-$5000 NONE WERE COLLAPSIBLE Off the shelf components: Headset Bearing Suspension Swing Arm Bushing Handlebar, stem, and riser Levers and skewers

Design Materials Frame and swing arm: 6061-T6 Aluminum Frame - 2” x 6” x 0.125” Swing arm – 1” x 2” x 0.125” CrMo 4130 Steel fork - .035” wall thickness Steel, aluminum, plastic suspension Chris King Headset aluminum Phenolic Bushing Titanium Pins Aluminum Handlebar and footpegs Stainless steel brakes

Manufacturing Process Milling Turning Brazing Welding Tapping

Final Design Highlights Removable handlebars Fork drops out Swing arm folds under Multiple shock orientations User Friendly Bindings

Final Design

Brakes & Bindings Stainless steel plate bent and welded Pointed tips and plows are effective in powder and ice Very easy to actuate with hand brake lever No clearance issues Binding interface simpler

Suspension System RockShox Kage R Plastic bushings with titanium pins 300# & 600# springs Preload adjustment Damping adjustment Multiple orientations for multiple riders

Headtube, Riser, & Stem Removable Vertical skewer within stem riser Two cam levers clamp riser to fork

Final Specs Weight: 17.1 lbs Price: $911 Volume: 4” x 8” x 32” Only 5 lbs heavier than last years model Price: $911 $89 under budget with potential to reduce Volume: 4” x 8” x 32” Fits easily into large backpack
