Update on Cyclone Roanu and Flood Responses by HCTT LCG-DER meeting, 8th September 2016

TC Roanu Timeframe: TC landfall: 21/05, HCTT trigger JNA: 21/05 JNA- 1:26/05, HRP: 01/06 18 districts affected, 7 more severely; 1.3 million affected DDM was highly responsive to the immediate needs of affected communities. A total of 496,260 people received shelter assistance in 3,796 cyclone shelters. The national authorities provided dry food rations and rice (7,575 MT) and a monetary assistance (BDT 27,825,000 equivalent to US$ 347,812). 11,063 bundle corrugated iron sheets Innovation: District coordination mechanism in 6 districts Weekly sitrep The 3 month completion report The quick approval for organisations to implement their activities

Targeted persons: 432,162 as per the HRP, reached 75% HRP is 40% funded = 4.9 million USD (CERF and ECHO not included) [12 million USD requested]

4 clusters mobilised more than 30% of funding requirement: FSC, health, SGBV and Shelter

Monsoon floods in the North Monsoon floods: recurrent disaster but this year occurred earlier =>DRR investments paid off 3.7 million people and 19 districts affected with 5 districts severely: Sirajgonj, Kurigram, Gaibandha, Jamalpur and Tangail => strong impact on the agro and fishing activities (rice, jute, fish), damaged houses (>250,000), infrastructures (education, road, etc.)

GoB response Flood shelter: 7,400 people stayed 7-10 days in 69 flood shelters (mostly school) MoDMR/DDM provided 4.5 million USD: rice, dry food and cash Other ministries participate in the response, e.g. Health and Agriculture Ministries (seed and other assistance to a total of 400,000 farmers)
