ICU Infection Prevention: Teams and Engagement Baystate Health System June St. Georges RN CIC

ICU Infection Prevention Rounds All staff including Physicians, Residents, RNs, PCTs, Respiratory Therapy, Dietary, Pharmacy and Environmental Services: are invited to participate in Infection Control Rounds 2nd and 3rd Friday of the month at 11 AM starting in POD A. Let’s work as a team to eliminate Hospital Acquired Infections. Bring your ideas!!!

Monthly Education Topics include: Prevention strategies, e.g. Hand Hygiene UTI Prevention VAP Bundles Current infection prevention issues: Norovirus H1N1 Minutes taken and reported back to the staff in their ICU news letter Follow up on issues identified till resolution

Issues identified by staff: Hand Hygiene: Containers full but not working Placement of products: AHR, Lotion VAP: ETT holder not effective Peridex/ CHG ordered but not d/c’ed when vent is d/c’ed Review Vented patients - HOB elevated to 30 degrees CLABSI Care of the Portacaths and PICC lines responsibility Environmental Cleaning issues Broken linen carts Staff eating and drinking in patient care areas
