Unintentional injuries can be prevented by taking precautions Things in an emergency survival kit: water, food, cell phone, battery operated radio, flash light, blankets, and medication and money Your mental state can affect your judgment and reaction time while driving just as much as your physical state Sprain- injury to a ligament Strain- injury to a muscle usually from overuse

Severed body part should be packed in ice to preserve the tissue Smoke Alarms belong outside of sleeping areas on every floor Safety in the home is the responsibility of the entire family Personal safety is helped by recognizing and avoiding sources of violence First link in chain of survival is call 911, next is begin CPR

CPR has several steps and they are: check scene, check responsiveness, check airway, check breathing, check circulation, begin chest compressions, and then breaths CPR is different for children and adults Shock-failure of the cardiovascular system to keep adequate supply of blood circulating to the vital organs of the body

Weather Hurricane- powerful storm that originates at sea with winds of 74 miles per hour Flash flood- heavy rainfall in short duration Tornado- whirling, funnel-shaped windstorm that drops from sky to ground Blizzard- snowstorm with winds of at least 35 miles per hour Earthquake- shaking of the earth, most casualties occur from falling objects or collapsing structures Warning- severe weather has been sighted and heading toward your area Watch- means that weather conditions are right for specific weather event to happen Severe weather- harsh weather conditions including heavy rains, strong winds, and lighting and hail
