Oedipus Complex (male limited) Origin: Oedipus the King Incestuous desire with mother in childhood the threatening of patriarchal authority suppress the desire into unconsciousness identify with father (his future possible position) masculine character (if succeeded) / possible homosexuality( if failed)
Compromise Formation ID(本我): acts according to the pleasure principles, and seeks to avoid pain or unpleasure aroused by increases in instinctual tension. EGO(自我): acts according to reality principles, and compromises between ID & SUPER-EGO. SUPER-EGO(超我): works in contradiction to the ID, and aims for perfection.
Object Relation Theory Melanie Klein, Margaret Mahler, Bernard Winnicott Object world: the physical & social around the self. Separation between self & others : the ability to make images of the world.
Jacques Lacan (1901-1981) Influenced by structuralism, Hegel, Heidegger, Sartre, and Saussure. Imaginary (from Sartre): all the operation of the ego. Displacement & substitution (from Saussure): the resemblance of the relation between the EGO & the unconscious to the function of language.
