Fallacies, Fads, Quacks, Rip-offs A false or mistaken claim - the result of inaccurate information Fad A passing style or fashion - that will soon be out of date Quacks Individuals who represent harmful and/or useless practices Rip-offs Being cheated by exchanging something of value for something worthless

Understanding Advertisements As a wise consumer, read all advertisements carefully. Look beyond the words, pictures and music to reveal the hidden message or psychological approach that is being used. Look for misleading and inaccurate statements.

Avoiding a Rip-off Develop a questioning attitude. Ask yourself whether the claim being made sounds too good to be true.

Purchasing Exercise Equipment Don’t be in a hurry. Buy only quality equipment. Make certain it is equipment you will continue to use. Make sure you have a place to use it. Determine if it needs to be assembled. Decide the features you really need and can afford. Purchase equipment with a warranty.
