Merger between UWTSD and University of Wales (UW) Joint governance and administrative arrangements agreed Parallel committee structures in 2017/18 Senior officers working across both institutions Detailed work to achieve merger in progress, including work on the partnerships office 14 UW collaborative centres being considered for transfer to the merged University: 4 fully approved 10 in progress International University of Malaya-Wales Around 30 exiting collaborative centres will remain with UW and will be managed under separate arrangements

UWTSD Performance in 2017 Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) ‘Bronze’ rating Improved performance across metrics; re-entering in 2017/18 National Student Survey 2017 Increase in overall satisfaction from 84% to 85% (sector average decreased by 3%) Overall position is joint 58th (from 147th in 2015 and joint 102nd in 2016) League tables 104 in Sunday Times (entry for first time in 2017) 16th in UK for teaching quality
QAA review of UK TNE in the Republic of Ireland Included review of UWTSD partnership with IBAT College, Dublin Draft report - positive features: Clearly defined policies, procedures and appropriate guidance for partners which provide an effective framework for the development and maintenance of partnership arrangements Support and oversight provided through PTL role Thorough approach to ongoing monitoring and review The wide range of staff development offered to the College by the University Two recommendations relating to: short-cutting the validation process the inclusion of student engagement arrangements in student handbooks Reports due for publication by QAA this month
New external quality assessment arrangements in Wales Principles and key features in Wales are the same (e.g. the same baseline regulatory requirements) but there are some differences: Requirement for periodic external quality assurance review is retained; Universities Wales has commissioned QAA to undertake this work External review at least once every six years – earlier if there is ‘a significant change’ such as a new campus Judgement terminology of ‘meets requirements’, ‘meets requirements with conditions’, or ‘does not meet’.
