UWTSD Performance in 2017 Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) ‘Bronze’ rating Improved performance across metrics; re-entering in 2017/18 National Student Survey 2017 Increase in overall satisfaction from 84% to 85% (sector average decreased by 3%) Overall position is joint 58th (from 147th in 2015 and joint 102nd in 2016) League tables 104 in Sunday Times (entry for first time in 2017) 16th in UK for teaching quality

QAA review of UK TNE in the Republic of Ireland Included review of UWTSD partnership with IBAT College, Dublin Draft report - positive features: Clearly defined policies, procedures and appropriate guidance for partners which provide an effective framework for the development and maintenance of partnership arrangements Support and oversight provided through PTL role Thorough approach to ongoing monitoring and review The wide range of staff development offered to the College by the University Two recommendations relating to: short-cutting the validation process the inclusion of student engagement arrangements in student handbooks Reports due for publication by QAA this month

New external quality assessment arrangements in Wales Principles and key features in Wales are the same (e.g. the same baseline regulatory requirements) but there are some differences: Requirement for periodic external quality assurance review is retained; Universities Wales has commissioned QAA to undertake this work External review at least once every six years – earlier if there is ‘a significant change’ such as a new campus Judgement terminology of ‘meets requirements’, ‘meets requirements with conditions’, or ‘does not meet’. Possible judgement on enhancement after 2017/18 (a development year) Implications of establishment of Office for Students Implications of Welsh Government consultation on future system for post-compulsory education (Hazelcorn Review)
