Review Mission Findings Teachers/HMs and even children are not aware of MDM Logo. Inspections by the officials are few. Distances covered by the Centralised Kitchens/ NGOs could be reduced from 60 kms to 20 kms radius in order to give fresh and hot food to the children. Supply food cans should be in sealed container to avoid misuses/irregularities/dilutions and so on. No helpers engaged in the schools in Bangalore with the result Teacher has to serve food to children. A thorough review of the roles, responsibilities, performance and accountability of the NGOs engaged in MDMS must be carried out, to ensure accountability. Locally available Greater variety of nutrition should be supplied under MDMS.

Other Observations of Review Mission Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India Other Observations of Review Mission Cook-cum-helpers not engaged in any of the schools in Bangalore (U) with the result Teachers have to serve food to children. In one of the visited schools in Bangalore(U) named GHS Juganahalli Rajajinagar 2nd Block the Team was informed that on 7.2.2013 a piece of glass was found in the meal of Shivraju class 9th Standard which is served through ISKON (NGO). Nobody is aware of the issue. It was recorded in the ruche pustak. It seems that there is no regular inspections of the schools otherwise it would have come in the notice of the District and State officials The schools catered by NGOs are not regularly inspected by Officials. The toll free number for Grievance redressal is nor popular neither painted on school walls.No one is aware of the Toll free number

Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India Conti….. Cooking agencies like Adarsh Rural Development Society serving Mid Day Meal to NCLP children(visited by the Team) in Bangalore (U) and some of the centralized kitchen are not providing satisfactory services. The team also observed in the schools where MDM is supplied by the NGOs that the Cans containing MDM are not sealed and hence food is not safe and hence any mishap can happen Though this fact is known to the District and Block authorities, yet they have not taken any effective action

MI-Findings Contd… Madhugiri District : 1. There was interruption in MDM in one of the schools due to non availability of food grains, which resulted in no MDM for 14 days. 2. Regarding quality of food grains 3% of the schools have said that the quality is not good. 3. Payment to cook not regular in 31% of the schools. District Chikkodi In 5% of schools, there were interruptions in MDM during the current academic year. The interruption varied from 1 day to 6 days. Due to –No stock of food grains. 39% of the visited schools say that quality of food grain is not good.

Bangalore Urban [South] District In 16 schools, it is found that there is severe illness of students – an alarming situation which needs immediate attention. 7 schools are not getting funds for cooking cost regularly with a delay of one month.
