Body Systems Mrs. Vogel

Circulatory System Transports nutrients, water and oxygen throughout the body Heart, Blood, Blood vessels (arteries, capillaries, veins) Heart located in center of the chest slightly to the left The Heart pumps blood and keeps it circulating

Circulatory System Red blood cells carry O2 and CO2 White blood cells fight infections http://kidshealth.org/kid/htbw/CSmovie.html#cat20580

Kidneys Part of the Excretory System Found on either side of the spine, below ribcage, in the back Filters waste materials out of the blood and pass them out of the body as the urine Regulate blood pressure and levels of water salt and minerals Produce hormones that control body function

Kidneys http://kidshealth.org/kid/htbw/USmovie.html#cat20580

Brain and Nervous System Brain is the boss, controls everything Computer Nervous System is like a network Relays messages back and forth to different parts of the body by the spinal cord Spinal Cord Contains thread like nerves Branch out to every organ and body part

Brain and Nervous System http://kidshealth.org/kid/htbw/NSmovie.html#cat20580

Lungs and Respiratory System Allow O2 in the air to be taken into the body, while enabling the body to rid CO2 in the air breathed out Breathing in = inhalation Breathing out= exhalation Cilia- protect the nasal passageways and other parts of respiratory, filter out dust

Lungs and Respiratory System http://kidshealth.org/kid/htbw/RSmovie.html#cat20580

Digestive System Liver Produce bile Helps absorb fat Bile stored in gallbladder Bile goes to small intestine to help break down the food.
