Quality Improvement Skills Course Overview Ambition Your aim: how much, by when Understanding your processes: mapping, pareto charts, fishbone diagrams Measures: How will you know a change is an improvement Generating Ideas Testing / PDSA Outcome

Model for Improvement Know exactly what you are trying to do Have clear aims and objectives Understanding of current process and patient & staff experience Collect baseline data, measure processes and outcomes What have others done? What hunches do we have? What can we learn as we go along?

Understanding your Process/system What are the parts of your process? Inter-dependency Interactions What is its current aim? What is your current knowledge of process system? How do you know what you know? What facts do you have Do you have enough Knowledge to predict/theory Building knowledge by testing (PDSA) Who is involved & how do they do? Interaction between people How ready to change? Are the people included in the process? What beliefs, values, expectations? Understanding Variation What variation is in the current process/outcome?
