Properties of Waves EQ: How do I describe the basic properties of waves and how a wave’s speed is related to its wavelength and frequency?
Waves can also be reflective and refractive Waves can bounce off of something after striking it. That is a reflection. Sound and light waves can equally.
What are waves? Waves = a transfer of energy from one place to another Ex. = a water wave is a disturbance at the surface of the water. Ex. = a seismic.
Can you guess the title of today’s lesson?. Waves Learning Objectives MUST - describe what waves are, including the terms, wavelength, amplitude, frequency.
What is the wavelength? What is the amplitude?.

Wave Calculations

To find wave speed… S (Wave speed) = λ(wavelength) x f (frequency) Example: How fast is a wave traveling that has a wavelength of 5m and a frequency of 20 Hz? 100 m/s

To find wavelength… λ (Wavelength) = S (wave speed) / f (frequency) Ex: A wave on a certain banjo string travels at a speed of 200 m/s. Calculate the wavelength a note sounding at a frequency of 440 Hz. 0.45 m

To find frequency… f (Frequency) = S (wave speed) / λ (wavelength) Example: If a wave has a wavelength of 6.2 meters and is travelling at 610 m/s, what is its frequency? 98.4 Hz
