King Arthur and Camelot Who is King Arthur? Was there a place called Camelot? Bethany A.

History of Mystery Who exactly was Arthur? Did he exists? Some people believe that he ruled as king from the kingdom of Camelot while others believe that Arthur was a warrior and battled the Saxons. Some people go as far to say that he was a god! Most stories and facts about Arthur come from the British saying that he lived on British islands, and battled in Ireland. It is truly a mystery.

Science Fiction Theories The story goes that King Uther married a women and had a son named Arthur. She died, and Uther became deathly sick. Arthur was given to Merlin, a wise magician, who gave Arthur to a good knight where he grew up and became a man.

Science Fiction Theories During that time, Uther had died and fights broke out between the knights, who all had reasons that they should be king. Merlin, seeing this, placed a magical sword in a stone in front of a well known church, which he engraved with the words, “Whoever pulls this sword out, is the right and true king.” Every knight in the kingdom came to the test, and all failed.

Science Fiction Theories When Arthur heard of the sword, he went out to retrieve it. He walked up to the rock, oblivious of the words engraved and pulled it out. He was escorted to the throne room and anointed king of Camelot. He then set out for the Holy Grail, but was killed by his mortal enemy, an evil wizard named Mordred.

Scientific Explanation Some people believe that Arthur was not a king, but a warrior that fought with kings and that his actual name was Dux Bellorum. This is very possible, but where, then, did we get the name, Arthur?

Your Reasoned Judgment I believe that there was a King Arthur and that he ruled a kingdom (not necessarily Camelot). Writings of this great person began around 33AD. Science says that “Arthur” and Camelot” never existed and was instead called different names, so why did the name “Arthur” come up in so many early writings? I think the only explanation is that Arthur did exist, but I do have skeptics when it comes to magic.
