OBJECTIVES By the end of today’s lesson you should be able to: Understand and explain communication. Differentiate between the purposes and forms of communication. 3. Explain the role of interference in the communication process.

What is Communication? …the sending and receiving of information. Hmmm … if you scream out in pain, but nobody is around to hear you, is communication taking place?

Why Do We Communicate? To Persuade To Inform To To Control To Entertain

Forms of Communication 1. Non-Verbal: Gestures, expressions 2.Verbal: Speaking & singing Written: Anything in text form… Newspaper, Twitter, Facebook

COMMUNICATION MODEL Source Receiver Interference Messages 1. Verbal 2. Non-Verbal 3. Written Source Receiver

Interference Written: Legibility, tone or emphasis. Examples: …anything which alters, modifies, or disrupts a signal as it travels along a channel between a source and a receiver. Examples: Verbal: Terminology, language barrier, etc… Non-Verbal: Distractions (expressions or gestures). Written: Legibility, tone or emphasis.
