Free Flow With Watercolor

Can Be Very Controlled

But still has a free spirit about it

We’ve been drawing to build your levels of control, now it’s time to loosen it up in painting

Sometimes, losing some of the control adds surprise and mystery to a design. Contemporary artists are becoming less controlled today.

Jackson Pollock Jean-Michel Basquiat Ghada Amer

The best way to lose control is to start with watercolors

Question: How will you lose an element of control? Create a watercolor painting showcasing a balance between control and freedom Criteria -Have a color theme -Show Value -Depict a person, place, or thing -At least one area that show a loss of control -Have an interesting, balanced composition that uses the entire paper. -An executed plan (placement on images and execution of your idea is clean and well thought out) -Only use watercolor on your paper

Find the balance between control and surprise

Blend colors with water to create a mood and atmosphere

Use value and a color theme

Color theme

Using the entire composition

Enhancing the design though elements of surprise

Goals 1. display are artwork in the display case. Do not copy ideas online. 2. Create a preliminary sketch, experiment with watercolors. No artist statement needed for this assignment. 3. Take a photo of your finish artwork and send it to me via email.

Those who have completed this assignment before, I’d like to you attempt to paint a person in watercolor and having a area of the painting lose control in some way. Painting people is a much higher difficulty.
