MIDDLE AGES The murcian character and culture has also been strongly influenced by arabic occupation. The city of Murcia has many archaeological remains from that period of time. Santa Eulalia’s wall, in Murcia.

MODERN AGES Spanish kings paid a lot of attention to this strategic point of the Iberian Peninsula, so the Region of Murcia still preserve many examples of that, such as the Cathedral, in Murcia, or the military arsenal, in Cartagena.

CONTEMPORARY AGE After the harsh war of independence between France and Spain, which happened in the 19th century (1808-1814), liberal reform made by Javier de Burgos (1833) became the Kingdom of Murcia into the province of Murcia. This spanded a large part from the current province of Albacete. This change lasted until the Spanish democratic transition (1975-78). The current region of Murcia adquired its autonomy in certain aspects in 1985 (as well as the rest of autonomous Spanish regions).

♥ Institutions The main institutions of the region of Murcia are the Regional Assembly, the President, the Council of Government.

♥ The Town Hall - The Council of Government is responsible for directing the regional policy. It is composed of the President, the Vice-President and the Trustees, appointed by the President. It is headquartered in the Palace of St. Stephen from the city of Murcia.

♥ The High Court of Justice in Murcia contributes to the territorial organization of the community.
