The Cell Organelles

Cells are the basic unit of life in that every living things is composed of a cell or many cells

Cells are made up of smaller structures called organelles, these are like mini-organs which like the organs in our body. The have various functions that help the cell to survive.

Animal cell An animal cell has many structures but the you are not required to learn all of these right now. An animal cell has: Nucleus Cell membrane Cytoplasm Mitochondria

NUCLEUS The nucleus is the control center for the cell It stores the cell's hereditary material, or DNA.

Cell membrane The cell membrane controls what enters and leaves the cell. Semi permeable means that is lets some things through but not others.

CYTOPLASM The cytoplasm is the liquidy substance that is in between the cell membrane and the nucleus. The cytoplasm is where most of the reactions for life happen. It is known to contain the organelles of a cell.

Mitochondria The mitochondria provides energy for the cell through the process of respiration. Since it breaks down food to release enegy. Mitochondria are known as the powerhouses of the cell.

Plant Cell

CELL WALL A plant cell wall protects the cell and keeps the plant cell in hard, stiff and straight shape. Cell walls are made of specialized sugars called cellulose. Cellulose provides a protected framework for a plant cell to survive.

CHLOROPLAST They help the production of food through the use of sun energy, carbon dioxide and water. The chloroplast also gives the plant their green color.

VACUOLE Are storage bubbles found in cells. They are found in both animal and plant cells but are much larger in plant cells. The are big and permanent in plant cells while are small and temporary in animal cells. Vacuoles might store food. They can even store waste products.
