Navigation Instructions Intro Outline Vocabulary Cycle Stages Dissecting Review Navigation Instructions The panel above this writing will navigate you through each slide and back to home. The top panels at the top of the page will navigate you to the beginning of each section.

Intro Outline Vocabulary Cycle Stages Dissecting Review Objectives Students will be introduced to the life cycle stages of a frog by setting up a frog habitat with tadpoles collected from a local pond and by completing daily observations of this habitat. A video and reading comprehension exercises will further reinforce students’ knowledge.

Spawn (egg-mass) - Clumps of frog eggs. Tadpole (a baby frog)- An egg hatches into a tadpole. Froglet - A young frog. Metamorphosis - The process of changing from a tadpole into an adult frog.

Cycle Stages Life Cycle of a Frog: First Week Intro Outline Vocabulary Cycle Stages Dissecting Review Cycle Stages Life Cycle of a Frog: First Week A female frog lays 5,000 to 6,000 eggs in water. Each egg is only 1.5 mm in diameter. When the eggs are 6 days old you can see the tiny tadpoles inside of the eggs.

Life Cycle of a Frog: 6-9 Days Old Intro Outline Vocabulary Cycle Stages Dissecting Review Life Cycle of a Frog: 6-9 Days Old The tadpoles come out of their eggs. They are now 8 mm long. They are adapted to living in water. They take in oxygen from the water through their gills. They have long tails to help them move through the water to hunt for food.

Life Cycle of a Frog: 60-84 Days Old Intro Outline Vocabulary Cycle Stages Dissecting Review Life Cycle of a Frog: 60-84 Days Old The tadpole now has back legs. It uses it’s legs and tail to move around in the water. Its legs will help it move around on land. It begins looking more like a frog. The last thing to disappear is the tadpole’s tail. It gets smaller and smaller until it is gone.

Life Cycle of a Frog: Adult Frog Intro Outline Vocabulary Cycle Stages Dissecting Review Life Cycle of a Frog: Adult Frog An adult frog doesn’t look anything like its old tadpole self. Adult frogs breathe air through lungs-not gills. They spend most of their time on land-not in water. They can jump on land and swim in water.

Intro Outline Vocabulary Cycle Stages Dissecting Review Instructions 1Put on your goggles, gloves and apron. 2Place the frog in a tray, on its back, and pin down its legs. 3Cut the hinges of the frog's mouth and open it wide. 4Use your probe and diagram to locate any necessary structures inside the mouth. 5Using your frog anatomy diagram, look for the frog's cloaca -- or large intestine -- between its hind legs, and use forceps to the lift the skin in the area. 6Using scissors, cut along the center of the body from the large intestine to the lips. 7Pull back the skin and pin it flat. If you need to, cut toward the side at each leg to make this easier. 8Cut through the muscles and breast bone to open the body cavity. 9Using your probe and scissors, remove the intestines and liver. Use your frog anatomy diagram to help you locate these organs. 10Consulting your diagram, remove the connective tissue on top of the red kidneys, the peritoneal membrane. 11Remove the red kidneys. 12Slice open a thigh and observe the leg muscles. 13Dispose of your materials according to your teacher's instructions.
